Still heading South.

Heading south towards West Wyalong. Our first stop was a town called Peak Hill. It is an old gold mining town.  We stopped just off the main road, opposite an op shop. Got some lovely blocks for Miss Cooper.

We went to the information Centre which also held crafts and antiques, almost like a museum.

One of the signs along the main street.

Peak Hill open cut gold mine. No longer being mined but a company has bought the mining rights to all the land around the present mine.

At the back of the town is Australia's first vertical silos. I love history.

Next we drove to Parkes Radio Telescope.

The facility has a information display as well as the usual souvenirs and a cafe.

I took time to do one of the puzzles.

This is the setting of the Australian movie The Dish.
There were many interpretive signs all around the complex.

This is one of the outside displays.

We spent almost two hours there and had lunch with a view of the Dish.

We drove through Parkes and stopped about 40km north of West Wyalong at a place called Marsden's Rest.  There were three other vans there, two of which appeared to be there for a few days.

The rest area is beside a river but there was no water there.

My drinking view.
We ended up having 11 vans stay overnight at the rest area.

Sunset at Marsden's Rest.

Happy Camping
Allison
