Toobeah Queensland

After spending a few days at Leslie Dam, near Warwick, we travelled along the Cunningham Highway to Goondiwindi. We had planned on doing some grocery shopping while there,  but being a public holiday, and a country town, all the shops were closed. So we continued along the Barwon Highway to Toobeah.

There is really nothing at Toobeah. A pub, a general store that appears to be closing and doubles as a Post Office, and a few houses. That's it. Toobeah is a small town on the Darling Downs and has a population of 45. The area seems to be a horse area.

It is halfway between Warwick and Lightning Ridge,  so a good place to spend the night. According to Wikicamps the pub has free overnight, so after checking with the publican,  Michael, we pulled into the grassed area beside the pub. It was perfect for one or two caravans, luckily we were the only one there. Another caravan stayed the night at a paddock at the back of the pub.

It was raining lightly so Jonnie and I set up while Peter had a beer (or two) and then we relaxed for an hour or so, before heading into the pub for dinner.

Dinner was good, I loved my Drovers Chicken (chicken breast with avocado and ham and cheese),  and the salad was different with beetroot and pineapple.  I also loved the chips and garlic cream sauce. Jonnie had beef stir fry with noodles, which he seemed to enjoy. Peter had curry of the day, which was beef and was very tough and not as hot as Peter asked for. A beer was $5.60, wine $5.60, soft drink $2.60

The pub has Foxtel, and a good kids play room with videos. The owners Michael and Stacy were very friendly and helpful. We have put this on our 'do again' list. We had a great stay and will definitely stay again.
